HELP FOR USING THE MAP
You can interact with the map on either a laptop or a mobile phone from either mymap.eco or www.MyceliumMap.net. Using a mouse, keyboard or a touchscreen you can:
Here’s a short video to see the main operatiopns working in practice.
HELP FOR ORGANISATION ADMINISTRATORS
Each organisation represented on the Mycelium Map is the responsibility of one or more Administrators in that organisation.
Q - My proximity results don't reflect where I'm based.
A - These are based on the location which the map has picked up when you selected 'Allow to use your current location' when you joined the map. Your location is represented by the blue dot. If this is not in the right place (or you want to check from a different location), you can move this. Click on it once - it turns white. Move it to your preferred located. Click on it again - it turns blue. Your proximity range will now use this new location.
Q - My search panel has disappeared, how do I get it back?
A - Click on the Q button at the top left.
Q - I'd like to put my organisation on the Map. How do I make that request?
A - Click on the hamburger menu (3 lines at top right) and choose the 'Join the Map' option. Let us know your details and we'll be in touch.
Q - Why are some organisations shown on the map with a dotted line linked to their location?
A - This is to avoid overlaps where more than more organisation shares the same address. The dotted line leads to their actual address, which is usually shown in full on their information panel.
Q - Why are the red dots for some events shown near the host organisation joined by a dotted line?
A - This is done to avoid a series of dots obscuring each other if they were placed exactly on the organisation's exact location. So they are placed separately around that location and each linked with a dotted line. So to be sure of the exact location of the event, follow the dotted line or check the address in the information panel about the event.
FAQs FOR ORGANISATION ADMINISTRATORS
Q - How do I login in order to edit by organisational details or add an event?
A - Click on the hamburger menu (3 lines at top right), and the login button is at the bottom of the screen
Q - I've lost my password or would like to change it
A - When logging in, select 'forgot my password'. Your username is the one you chose on sign-up and can't be changed. If you can't retrieve it, write to us at hello@mymap.eco
Q - I'm filling in the form for my organisation and I don't like the password chosen for me by the system
A - Click on the box and select 'Choose my own' from the dropdown.
Q - Can I set an event as recurring?
A - We are looking into this as an option in the software, but it is very complex because of the different types of recurrence, changes in event details and dates that are to be excluded. So, as a partial solution, we suggest putting a reference to your regular events in the description field of your organisation's information details.
Q - As an administrator for my group how do I manage more than one organisation on the Map?
A - If you have previously requested this feature, please check following video to see how it works.
Q - How do I add a mycelium link between my organisation and others?
A - This is not available in the software. We can do this for you if you let us know which organisations to link to and confirm that you have their permission to be linked to. Please send your request to hello@mymap.eco.
The Mycelium Map connects people in their local communities to take action on climate change.  It provides a comprehensive mapping and listing of local climate action groups in the Chiltern area, from small neighbourhood initiatives to large-scale organisations. With the Mycelium Map, you can find the groups closest to you, learn more about their activities and join their efforts to tackle the climate-nature crisis.
When people see how many support organisations are springing up to help decelerate the climate-nature emergency, a wider sense of confidence can replace the current sense of powerlessness. We don’t need to wait for a peaceful, grassroots, climate-nature movement to happen: we are already here! And the Mycelium Map makes this reality visible.
Green community organisations, sustainability-focused SMEs, faith groups, schools, local councils and the public: in other words, everyone who lives in the area. As the climate-nature crisis presses ever closer, and climate anxiety spreads, communities need support to become more resilient both in practical and psychological ways. The Mycelium Map helps communities grow stronger and greener fast, by joining the green dots.
And all this high-quality promotion is available to community groups via the Map for free.
The Map is also for green companies. Businesses would also strongly benefit being on the Mycelium Map because it provides them (as explained above) not only with convenient, low-cost promotion but ‘warm leads’, since their goods and services are being seen by individuals and members of community groups actively interested in greener ways of living.
Yes, you are welcome, so long as your organisation meets our criteria:
Each group on Map is responsible for its own entries: the description, any pictures and videos and, above all, the range of events that it is running.
To become an administrator for your group, please submit the 'Join the Map' form from the hamburger menu on the top right of the map. Or drop us a line at hello@mymap.eco.
Yes, so long as they are working directly in the environmental sector, or otherwise have a clear environmental policy with impact assessments.
The Map initially covers the area of the Chilterns. There is growing interest in extending the Map to other regions of the UK.
The Map was initiated by The Hedgerley Wood Trust, a charity whose charitable object is public education, and has a particular emphasis on climate. HWT was founded and registered with the Charity Commission in August 2013.
As well as the Map, HWT runs a range of projects to this end, e.g:
- running the OneClimate Centre, a fast-growing and very lively community hub for people from local climate organisations across the county
- making high-quality climate-related documentaries.
This is a uniquely experienced team, who have pioneered and run world-first digital media innovations for social benefit over the past 4 decades, including:
